of Breast Enhancement In Oklahoma
Breast Lift/Mastopexy
Also known as mastopexy, a breast lift in Oklahoma City raises and firms sagging breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the surrounding tissue. It is a procedure that is commonly performed after pregnancy or weight loss to correct sagginess, or can be used to correct poorly shaped or asymmetric breasts. The procedure involves incisions that will both raise the nipple into a more appropriate, perky position and also shorten the length of the lower breast and tighten it appropriately. In addition, a breast lift will often also decrease the size of the areola, which is also commonly necessary after breast feeding or normal breast aging and sagging. Finally, a breast lift can rejuvenate your figure by producing a breast profile that is more youthful and uplifted, which will also commonly give the appearance of a lengthened, narrowed torso.
What breast lift surgery won’t do
Breast lift surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts. If you want your breasts to look much smaller, or feel much lighter, you may need to consider a breast reduction, which involves similar incisions, but the removal of more breast tissue. In addition, breast lift does not restore or enhance the volume of the breast. If restoration or enhancement of fullness or shape to the upper portion of the breast is desired, an implant, or sometimes fat injection or a procedure called autoaugmentation is necessary to achieve this. Dr. Jones can discuss all of these options with you during your consultation.
Is breast lift surgery right for me?
Breast lift surgery is a highly individualized procedure that when performed for the right reasons, can be extremely rewarding. It is very important to closely examine what a breast lift can achieve and to know if that will meet your goals. Often, implant placement or reduction is also performed to better achieve goals, but is not always necessary. Nevertheless, with careful consideration and thorough consultation and preparation, the risks of the procedure can be very low with the chance of success very high. Dr. Jones will thoroughly discuss with you all options to help determine if breast lift is right for you.
The Consultation
You will meet with Dr. Jones and discuss your goals with respect to the shape of your breasts. You will specifically discuss what currently bothers you about your breasts and what you would like to correct or enhance. You will review the various breast lifting options and if you would like to improve the shape and fullness of the upper portion of your breast (very common and typically requires the placement of an implant). You may on the other hand discuss the importance of the reduction of some breast size and weight. Either way, it is very important to clearly state your goals to Dr. Jones.
Dr. Jones will then examine you and discuss with you options based upon your anatomy and goals. You may review before and after photos and illustrations and animations at this time as well to help clarify what can be expected.
Finally, after you and Dr. Jones have collaborated on the best plan for you, he will discuss with you the risks of the procedure and the typical recovery. You will also discuss what preparations are necessary for surgery such as if a mammogram is necessary, any medications you will need to stop etc. You will have the opportunity to have any other questions answered at this time as well.
The Procedure
Dr. Jones will typically perform a breast lift and its variations in his surgical facility, which is at the same location as his office. The day of surgery, you will have the comfort of arriving at the same place as your consultation and being greeted by the same staff. You will then come into the preop room and Dr. Jones will come in and answer any final questions or concerns. He will mark you for surgery and you will then meet the anesthesiologist. You will then walk to the operating room for surgery with assistance from Dr. Jones’ nurse.
After your breasts are reshaped and excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is tightened as the incisions are closed. Many different skin incision patterns are possible and Dr. Jones will discuss with you the most appropriate (see above illustrations). Dr. Jones typically uses absorbable stitches that do not have to be removed to close the incisions and he also covers them with a tape that will remain for 2-3 weeks, on average. This tape will then be covered with gauze and you will be placed in a post surgical sports bra that fastens to the front. This helps to keep the incision areas clean and provide good support and protection while also allowing a very low maintenance recovery. You will typically recover for approximately one hour in Dr. Jones’ facility after surgery and you may then go home or to a local hotel within 30 minutes with a responsible adult the night of surgery. Dr. Jones will call to check on you the night of surgery.
Recovery
The first day after surgery will be your first postoperative visit. You will be shown how to care for your dressings on this day and be given further instructions such as when to shower, icing, activity level, etc. Your remaining visits will then be scheduled and spaced out accordingly. Pain medication is usually only necessary for a couple of days and most patients are up and moving around immediately. The average time off work is typically 2-3 days for a desk-type job. Low impact exercise can typically be resumed in 3 weeks after surgery with a return to full activity typically at 6 weeks. Most patients find themselves having to be careful to not overdo things because of how good they feel.
See the results
The results of your breast lift surgery are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will resolve and incision lines will fade. Some of these incision lines are concealed in natural breast contours, while others are visible on the breast surface. Nevertheless, most incisions fade well enough to blend in with the tissues well. This takes approximately one year.
Satisfaction with your new image should continue to grow as you recover and realize the fulfillment of your goal for breasts which have been restored to a more youthful and uplifted position.
